Heart of Africa Organization
As most of you know, I have been involved with an organization named Heart for Africa and their work in Swaziland, Africa. Around eight years ago, Heart for Africa purchased 2500 acres in Swaziland to develop it into a self-sufficient community to help rescue some of who were in the greatest need. Since then, it has been amazing to see the area grow as it has. We now have over 50 babies who have been abandoned by their parents, either through neglect or death (us ... usually due to AIDS). A new building has been built including a baby home, volunteer quarters, a vocational center, a chapel and all of the farm building. In 2010, I was named head of the medical/dental building council to help establish a clinic on the property. I have been feverishly working to get equipment and supplies to Swaziland, and last month the equipment left Alpharetta and should be arriving in Africa in late April. The medical/dental building has already been built and it is unbelievable to see this project finally come to fruition. I will be making my third trip to Swaziland over the summer to help get the equipment in and hopefully do some dentistry.
As I have mentioned this project to my patients, they have asked if there is any way they can help. Of course you can. One way is that if you are a praying person, to lift up some prayers for safety and that we can get the clinic started with few impediments. Secondly, there is a financial need. We are going to be purchasing a suction unit and x-ray unit in Johannesburg at an estimated cost of $4000. I am pretty tapped out on my ability to give more, but if any of you would like to chip in, that would be unbelievable. Your donation with be taxable, of course. This money will not go to any of my travel expenses, but only for this needed equipment. Thank you so much for those prayers and support. Whenever I get around my colleagues, I always brag on you as the best patients a dentist could ask for- and, I'm not lying when I say that.
